Dehradun airport authorities received a bomb threat on Monday resulting in the closure of the terminal and tightening of the security arrangements. The emailed threat turned out to be a hoax but resulted in considerable inconvenience to the commuters and personnel. This incident occurred on a day when scores of schools in Delhi also received bomb threats by email, in addition to which the Agra airport authority in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh also received a similar threat.

According to the police, the Dehradun airport director Prabhakar Mishra lodged a complaint in the Doiwala Kotwali stating that an email was received at 11:54 regarding a bomb threat in the airport. The sender had claimed that a bomb had been hidden in a bathroom in the Dehradun airport. Checks carried out following the receipt of the mail ascertained that it was a hoax. Mishra stated in his complaint that the email was intended solely to create fear in the public and that the disinformation resulted in considerable inconvenience to the travellers and airport staff. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case and initiated investigation in the matter.

It will be recalled that the last hoax bomb threat aimed at Dehradun airport was conveyed on October 16. The airport had to be closed for two hours and some flights had to be diverted to other airports in response to the bomb threat, which later turned out to be a hoax.
