The Dehradun Bandh of two hours called by Mool Niwas- Bhoo Kanoon Samanvya Sangharsh Samiti (MNBKSSS) failed to elicit public support on Thursday. It was only partially successful in some localities of Raipur block. The Bandh call was given to protest against the shootout incident at Dobhal Chowk in the Nehrugram area on June 16.
However, it failed to have any serious impact on other parts of the city. The police on Thursday detained some protesters including MNBKSSS members who were allegedly causing traffic jams near Dobhal Chowk. According to the officials, those who had called for the Dehradun Bandh did not get public support and failed to have any impact across the city. This enraged some of the protesting individuals and organisations who tried to disrupt the traffic by protesting near Dobhal Chowk, which created a severe traffic jam.
The officials said that several commuters and ambulances remained stuck there as protestors blocked the road, creating a chaotic atmosphere there. Even after a lot of persuasion by the police, the protesters were adamant about blocking the road. Considering this, the police detained some protesters and sent them to Suddhowala jail on charges of inciting people and disrupting the traffic.
