PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun

In view of the hot weather, the Dehradun Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Abhinav Tyagi has instructed all fire stations in the district to regularly inspect fire safety measures in hospitals and other important institutions. He directed that every fire station should inspect at least one hospital daily and submit a detailed report to his office. Tyagi conducted a surprise inspection of the Vikasnagar fire Station at Vikasnagar on Saturday. The inspection was carried out to check the preparedness of the Uttarakhand Fire and Emergency Services (UFES) considering the increased risk of fire incidents during the summer season.

During the visit, the CFO reviewed the emergency response system, availability of manpower and condition of firefighting equipment. He checked the attendance of fire personnel and duty rosters to ensure that enough staff members are available during emergencies. The functioning of the control room and the process of receiving emergency calls and sending quick responses were also inspected.

Tyagi also examined firefighting resources including fire tenders, fire bikes, hose pipes, foam compounds and pumping equipment. The condition and availability of safety gear such as helmets, gloves, fire entry suits, safety shoes and breathing apparatus were also checked. He reviewed maintenance records and other station documents and issued necessary directions to officials. He also stressed the need for quick response during fire emergencies and directed officials to conduct regular mock drills and training programmes to improve preparedness and public safety.

It will be recalled that recently, the ICU in a private hospital in Dehradun caught fire following a short circuit, resulting in one death and injuries to other persons. The incident has elicited focus on fire safety measures in hospitals and other institutions.
