Dehradun district hospital steps up security

Following the recent incident involving the alleged rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata, the Dehradun district hospital administration has intensified security measures within its premises. Notably, doctors and members of the general public have recently organised protests across the country advocating for improved security measures at hospitals. Consequently, the district hospital administration has heightened security and safety protocols.
Informing about this, the medical superintendent at the district hospital VS chauhan, stated that in response to the recent incident, they have implemented various safety measures, particularly focusing on the security of female doctors. He also highlighted the absence of a police outpost within the hospital premises, indirectly contributing to incidents such as the recent theft of a portable ventilator machine from the emergency department. Due to safety and security considerations, the hospital administration has recently requested the senior superintendent of police of Dehradun (SSP) Ajai Singh to establish a police chowki at the hospital soon, he said. Chauhan further said that that the process of setting up the police chowki may take some time. In response to the hospital administration’s request SSP to which six police officials have been deployed at the hospital, with two officials assigned to each shift – morning, afternoon, and evening. Moreover, the administration conducted an inspection of all CCTV cameras at the hospital and confirmed their functionality. He further informed that currently, there are eight PRD security guards at the hospital, but the decreased number of guards has raised security concerns. In view of this, they recently asked PRD department for two female and two male PRD guards at the hospital for safety and security, he said.
