In order to further improve patient care, the State administration recently approved the proposal for the establishment of a blood bank at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay district hospital, the hospital’s medical superintendent Dr VS Chauhan said. Recently, the newly appointed district magistrate Savin Bansal emphasised the importance of having a blood bank at the hospital. As a result, the administration has become actively involved in preparing a proposal for this facility. Regarding this, Chauhan stated that, in accordance with the DM’s instructions, they recently submitted a proposal to the State administration for the establishment of a blood bank at the hospital. The proposal has been approved by the administration. Further, the officials concerned have inspected the hospital to identify a suitable location for the construction of the blood bank. With the approval of the proposal, the only step remaining is to issue a tender to hire a company to build the blood bank. Chauhan added that they anticipate the State administration will soon release a tender for this purpose.

He further stated that the chief medical officer Dr Sanjay Jain has asserted that they have allocated Rs 50 lakh for establishing the blood bank on the hospital premises. However, the DM has promised that additional funding will be provided to the hospital if needed.

Regarding the blood bank requirements, he said that along with the establishment of the blood bank, equipment including deep freezers, specialised components and cross-matching instruments will be necessary. Additionally, three to four pathologists, nurses, medical officers, technicians and other staff will be needed to operate the blood bank. He emphasised the significance of obtaining a license for the functioning of the blood bank. Once the blood bank is established, they will promptly seek the license. He further emphasised that the establishment of the blood bank at the hospital was delayed by some years due to unavoidable reasons.
