The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal has provided an ultrasound machine to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Sahiya, Kalsi Block. This decision is reportedly set to benefit over 20,000 people across approximately 180 villages.
The introduction of the ultrasound facility will provide essential diagnostic services to pregnant women and other patients in need of medical examination, the DM said. The initiative was set in motion after residents of the area brought to light the absence of an ultrasound machine at the hospital during a public hearing session held by the DM in the Kalsi. The issue raised was particularly concerning for pregnant women and patients who were facing difficulties due to the lack of this critical diagnostic service.
Considering this, the DM directed the chief medical officer to take cognisance of the issue. Bansal said that with this initiative, the CHC Sahiya will finally have access to ultrasound services after 19 years of its establishment.
The ultrasound machine has already been dispatched to the hospital and it is expected to be operational by the first week of February. To ensure smooth functioning, radiologists from the sub-district hospital of Dehradun will visit the CHC twice a week to conduct the ultrasound examinations. This will save the local residents, particularly pregnant women and patients, from the inconvenience of traveling to Dehradun for the tests, the DM added.
