The Dehradun district magistrate Sonika has removed the additional district magistrate Ramji Sharan Sharma from his post just three days before the counting of votes polled in the Lok Sabha election set to be conducted on June 4. This decision was reportedly taken as per the order of the Election Commission of India (ECI) for his alleged negligence in carrying out election related duties for Lok Sabha elections. According to official sources, Sonika had received information about Sharma’s negligence towards works related to election duties. She forwarded this information with valid reports to the chief electoral officer of the State who forwarded it to the ECI after checking it. After reviewing the report, the ECI directed the DM to relieve Sharma of his duties as ADM. The DM issued the order regarding the same on May 31. According to the order, Sonika relieved Sharma of his duties as ADM and attached him to the office of the additional chief secretary of the department of Personnel and Vigilance. According to the official sources, the ECI has also reportedly sought departmental action against Sharma but nothing has been confirmed by the officials concerned so far.
