The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal has set a December deadline for the Education department to upgrade all government schools in the district with modern amenities, including whiteboards, LED lighting, proper furniture and other essential facilities. This initiative is part of the DM’s dream project Utkarsh Programme that aims to transform the educational environment and ensure holistic development for students across Dehradun, especially in remote areas. In a meeting held at the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun on Sunday, the chief education officer Pradeep Kumar Rawat addressed principals from the government schools of primary, upper primary, high schools and intermediate colleges, after the DM’s order. He emphasised the crucial role of school leaders in bringing the programme to life, highlighting that effective communication between different educational levels is key to improving education quality. Rawat said that with the right infrastructure and highly qualified teachers in government schools can help transform these institutions into centers of excellence. The Utkarsh Programme’s comprehensive approach will equip every classroom with whiteboards, LED lighting, secured water tanks and sports equipment for both indoor and outdoor activities, aiming to create a conducive learning environment. He also urged teachers to look beyond academics and address social issues like substance abuse, especially among students in urban areas, by engaging them in constructive activities. This programme represents a significant effort to uplift the district’s educational standards, ensuring that every child has access to quality education and facilities, he added.
