Dehradun police arrest 11 men for attempting to disturb public peace

 Police arrested 11 men from two different areas of Dehradun on Sunday on charges of causing disturbance and nuisance in public places. The accused were arrested following disturbances reported in Raipur and Clement Town police jurisdictions. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh informed that seven individuals were arrested late on Saturday and in the wee hours of Sunday after police received a report of a heated altercation between two groups near Walk-in-Wood restaurant on Sahastradhara Road. Despite attempts by police to mediate, the situation escalated with both groups resorting to violence. Due to which, the police arrested seven individuals under Sections 126, 135 and 170 of the BNSS Act. The arrested individuals from the Raipur area were identified as Rahul (24), Tushar (24), Abhinav Rawat (24), Sarthak Sharma (25) and Ayush Vardhan (37), Amit Sharma (38) and Ravindra Kumar (40). In a separate incident the same night, the police arrested four young men in Clement Town area under Section 170 of the BNSS Act for disrupting peace in the area. The arrested individuals in the Clement Town area were identified as Shivam Negi (20), Vasu Chauhan (22), Keshav Verma (21) and Alokik (21). Besides this, the police also conducted an operation late on Saturday across urban and rural areas and seized 25 vehicles for drunk driving and 41 for other violations. They penalised 55 individuals under the Police Act and collected Rs 17,000 in penalties. The police also notified 29 families of minors and youths violating traffic rules, as per Singh. The SSP said that the police are carrying out intense checking as part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order due to upcoming Christmas celebrations, Winter Carnival, New Year’s festivities and 38th National Games. All police station incharges have been directed to take stringent action against individuals involved in criminal activities or attempts to disturb public peace, he said.
