In a setback for the Delhi chief minister and the Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi High Court stayed his bail regarding a money laundering case pertaining to the excise policy scam. As per the HC’s order in this case of national importance, the trial court which had ordered bail to the embattled leader had not applied its mind while granting bail to him. Notably, after the trial court had granted him bail on a personal bond of Rs one lakh, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed petition in the Delhi High Court the next day, challenging the bail. The Delhi HC had stayed the bail in its interim order.
After the HC had stayed his bail, he had moved the Supreme Court but the SC refused to pre-judge the matter with the Delhi HC handling it.
After this stay order, the Delhi CM has to be in jail till the SC hears the bail plea on June 26.
To recall, the ED had arrested Kejriwal on the liquor policy scam in March.
