The authorities on Tuesday recovered the body of a tourist from Delhi who had reportedly drowned in the Ganga river in Rishikesh 10 days ago. The officials said that a man named Anil Kumar (30) from Delhi had drowned when he was bathing in the river on June 11.
The officials said that the police called the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) at the spot to rescue the man but they failed to either rescue him or recover his body. They claimed that his body reportedly got washed away with the river as the divers and the rescue team of SDRF could not find it despite searching for it consistently at all possible places since June 11. They said that on Tuesday, the in-charge of Lakshman Jhula police station called the SDRF informing that some locals had observed a body in the Pashulok barrage.
The rescue team of SDRF reached the spot under the supervision of chief constable Kishore Bora and recovered the body of a man with the help of a rope. The police suspected it to be the body of the tourist from Delhi who had drowned on June 11 and contacted the relatives of the man for an identification process. They were able to identify the body, as per the officials. The body will be handed over to the deceased’s family after completing the necessary procedure, added officials.
