With the wedding season approaching, there is usually an increase in the demand for wedding venues. However, those in the business point out that post-Covid, there has been a decrease in demand for wedding venues by an average of 25 per cent. Smaller gatherings and limited budgets are the main factors influencing people to opt for hotels instead of booking the usual open ground wedding venues for organising marriages, said the wedding venue owners.

Commenting on the demand for wedding venues, wedding point owner Alok Mittal stated that every year as the wedding season approaches, the demand for wedding venues increases. However, due to the impact of Covid-19, the demand for wedding venues has been affected. After the pandemic, people have become more inclined towards hosting smaller gatherings with a limited budget. As a result, the demand for wedding venues has decreased by an average of 25 per cent, with a shift towards hotels.”

He claimed that the wedding points have sufficient parking areas similar to hotels. The traffic in the city is not facing problems because of the wedding venues but due to the Smart City works, he added.

Another Dehradun-based wedding point owner Ramesh Nath claimed that the decrease in demand for wedding venues is due to the impact of the post-Covid era, which has caused suffering for businessmen like him. He said that nowadays people are opting for hotels instead of wedding venues due to the limited gathering trend.

Local resident Vasundhara Dimri told this correspondent that choosing a hotel for a wedding has become a convenient option for many people compared to traditional wedding venues. Hotels are a better option due to their affordability and the fact that guests can stay and attend the wedding in one location make such venues more convenient, she added.
