In view of the increasing cases of dengue the State government has issued an advisory with at least 30 positive cases being reported in Dehradun district alone so far. Issuing the advisory the Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar said that the role of all the departments is important in controlling the spread of dengue in the State.
The advisory focuses on inter departmental coordination and has been sent to Urban Development, Municipal Corporations/ Councils, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Education, Information, Disaster Management, Irrigation, Women and Child Development, Transport, Meteorology, Tourism, Forest and Drinking Water departments.
Chairing a meeting on Thursday, Kumar said that the priority of the department is to reduce the cases of dengue and ensure public health safety. He said that dengue is a viral infection spread by the mosquito Aedes Aezypti popularly known as Tiger Mosquito. The symptoms of the disease are persistent high fever, rashes, headache and joint pain.
Experts point out that since the Aedes mosquitoes are capable of laying their eggs in one spoonful of water, the pots, vases, water bottles and coolers should be decanted. The secretary said that the Health department officials are identifying the potential breeding grounds in all the districts and are engaging in source reduction activities.
