Dengue menace: Health secretary inspects Haldwani base hospital 

Directs hospital authorities to make ICU operational, increase pace of dengue tests

Amid spurt in the cases of the dengue in the State, the Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar has intensified his visits to the government hospitals in different parts of the State. On Tuesday, Kumar visited the base hospital in Haldwani and inspected the facilities there. He expressed his annoyance on the mismanagement and lack of arrangements made for the patients and directed the hospital authorities to improve things. On a stern note the Health secretary told the hospital staff that discrepancy in the treatment of dengue patients will not be tolerated. Kumar pulled up the officers concerned when he found the ICU of the hospital is not operational. He gave on the spot direction for the hospital authorities to ensure that the ICU becomes functional soon. Kumar also visited the wards of the hospital and interacted with the patients. He also inspected the dengue ward, emergency ward, dialysis unit and blood bank of the hospital. The secretary also directed the officers to ensure that the treatment of Ayushman card holder patients is done free of cost in the government and the private (panelled) hospitals. Expressing displeasure at slow pace of dengue tests, he directed the officers to ensure that more tests are done. “Instead of scribbling pen on the paper, the officers should accelerate the tests of dengue so that the patients get timely treatment,’’ he said.

 Later interacting with the media persons Kumar said that there are 307 active cases of dengue in the State. He claimed that beds are available in hospitals and said that the platelets will be administered only when necessary. Kumar said that penalties will be imposed on the hospitals for not treating the dengue patients properly. He said that the rates of dengue tests and treatment have been fixed and the district magistrates have been asked to take action on the hospitals where overcharging on dengue patients is done. The chief medical officer of Nainital Dr Bhagirathi Joshi, principal of Haldwani medical college Dr Arun Joshi and others accompanied Kumar during the inspection.
