A dengue patient was recently admitted in the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital here. The Health department clarified on Thursday that the patient recently admitted in the hospital does not belong to Dehradun. Notably, it was claimed in some reports that the first positive case of dengue has been confirmed in Dehradun through an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test. The patient has been admitted in the GDMC hospital for treatment. Officials at GDMC hospital have informed that the patient’s health is stable and no significant loss of platelets has been observed so far. Additionally, they have also reported the case to the Health department.
Following the confirmation of the first dengue-positive case in Dehradun, the Health department has examined the details of the case. After investigations, the Dehradun chief medical officer Dr Sanjay Jain revealed that the 42-year-old patient identified as Rishabh is actually a resident of Tehri district. On August 13, he had visited the sub district hospital in Rishikesh from Tehri due to symptoms including fever and headache. As his symptoms were not alleviated, he sought medical advice again at Premsukh Hospital on August 14. Following an observation of the same condition, on August 19, he was admitted to GDMC for treatment, where his ELISA test yielded a positive result. He was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday after recovering and he had provided the address of his relative in Dehradun in the hospital records, Jain added.
Considering this, he further added as of now, no positive cases of dengue have been reported in Dehradun district. Jain further stated that intensive monitoring of dengue is underway in the district, with all hospitals being instructed to prioritise medical treatment for patients exhibiting possible symptoms of dengue. Additionally, he noted the availability of dengue testing facilities in all district hospitals.
Further, the medical superintendent of the GDMC hospital Dr Anurag Aggarwal stressed the importance of people observing precautions to prevent the spread of dengue, urging them to promptly address water stagnation or logging in their surroundings. Further, he emphasised the significance of wearing full sleeves and light-coloured clothes, particularly during the monsoon season.
