The Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ directed the officials concerned on Wednesday to deploy additional resources to ensure garbage generated during Deepawali is being collected and disposed of properly. The mayor conducted an onsite inspection of the garbage transfer station at Kargi Chowk and several other locations on Wednesday morning to check the sanitation arrangements considering the increase in garbage generation in the city after the festivals.
According to the officials, the garbage generation usually increases by 10 to 15 metric tonnes after Deepawali and to ensure its collection and disposal work goes on smoothly, the sanitation section conducted a campaign from Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning. The Mayor also visited the garbage transfer station at Kargi Chowk on Wednesday for inspection and directed the officials concerned to ensure garbage is shifted to the waste management plant within stipulated time for proper disposal. He said that proper garbage collection and disposal must be their priority and directed officials to deploy more vehicles and equipment to collect and dispose of the additional garbage generated during the festival season to tackle the burden as per the requirement. He said that MCD would take stringent action against those who will be found to be negligent towards their duty in maintaining sanitation in Dehradun.
