Dept monitoring equines on Kedarnath route- Purushottam

The Animal Husbandry secretary BVRC Purushottam has said that the department is fully serious regarding the deaths of horses and mules on the bridle path to Kedarnath temple. He informed that the Animal Husbandry department is consistently monitoring the situation on the Yatra route. The department is providing medical treatment to the equines and facilities to their owners, he said.
The secretary informed that so far 140 equines have died on the Kedarnath route. The department has so far inspected 6,880 equines out of which 1,804 were provided treatment.Further, 118 equines were deemed unfit for the Yatra whereas challans were issued to 91 owners of the equines.
Purushottam further said that 411 equines had been blocked from participating in the Yatra while nine FIRs have also been lodged so far. Water for the animals and cleaning of their shelters is being facilitated consistently, he added.
