Development and environment complementary – Prof Singh

Renowned ecologist and former Vice Chancellor (VC) of HNB Garhwal University, S P Singh has said that environment and development are complementary to one another. Addressing a national webinar on the challenges and the opportunities in development of Uttarakhand, Singh said that the policies and development projects should be based on scientific study. This will help in attaining the goals of sustainable development and providing an impetus to the economic development of the state, he said. The webinar was organised by the department of economics, School of Social sciences, Doon University on Wednesday.
The Vice Chancellor (VC) of Doon University Surekha Dangwal said that the university is committed to innovation in research and maintaining quality of education. Noted geologist Navin Juyal said that proper geological investigation and study should be done prior to any development project. Senior Journalist Sushil Bahuguna said that the role of women in development of the state is of paramount importance. He opined that the society has not benefited much from large dams Uttarakhand. Senior advisor of International Centre for integrated mountain development Kathmandu Amina Maharajan shared important information on promoting and developing service sector for employment generation. Dean of student welfare H C Purohit, S P Sati, registrar of Doon University M S Mandrawal and others were present on the occasion.
