Devotees celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with religious fervour

Devotees in the city were observed celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi with great enthusiasm and religious fervour on Saturday. Many local residents were seen bringing idols of Lord Ganesh to their society or residence with music and dance. From traditional Pooja and decorations to offering Prasad, residents spared no effort to make the occasion memorable.
The enthusiasm for celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi started about a week ago. The major markets in the city were inundated with decorations, Pooja materials, idols and many other items. A devotee, Amit Chauhan said that on the first day of Ganesh Chaturthi, he rose early in the morning with great enthusiasm to welcome Lord Ganesh into his home. He described how he greets the idol of Lord Ganesh with music, dhol and traditional rituals. He stated that the process of worshiping and offering prayers to Lord Ganesh will persist till the Visarjan ceremony.
Resident of a society in Patelnagar, Raj Ahuja said that that each year they bring Lord Ganesh to their society. He explained that this year, they have adorned the Pandal in the society for the Ganesh Mahotsav celebrations. Members of the society brought the idol of Lord Ganesh amidst a display of colours, dancing, music and various other festivities on Saturday. He added that the enjoyment and religious fervour will continue for three more days until the Visarjan ceremony.
“Lord Ganesh’s idol has been brought to the temple in a traditional manner. The daily rituals to make the celebration memorable will include Mangal Arti, cultural events, Vedic chanting, classical music and various other activities to make the occasion memorable,” said a temple priest Ramdhari Bhauguna.
The celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi was observed with enthusiasm at a number of Pandals by devotees, with some engaging in activities such as playing with colours and welcoming the idols of Lord Ganesh with dance and music.
