In latest news from Uttarakhand, devotees in their thousands from far and wide thronged the sacred city Haridwar and took holy dip in revered Ganga on the auspicious occasion of Somvati Amavasya. They started gathering at Har Ki Pauri ghat since 4 am. In view of the huge devotee turnout, police have made elaborate arrangements to ensure their security. The mela zone was divided into 16 zones and 39 sectors and a route diversion plan was enforced to mitigate traffic congestion. Heavy vehicles are not being allowed to enter the city, police said and added that devotees’ stream would continue till evening.
