The director general of police Abhinav Kumar reviewed security arrangements and preparations for crowd management at Badrinath temple in Chamoli district on Tuesday. Kumar said that he reached Badrinath from Kedarnath temple by road on Monday where he observed the traffic related arrangements by the police. The authorities were halting vehicles and allowing their movement as per the requirement. He said that the ongoing construction work under the master plan in Badrinath Dham is also affecting traffic there. However, the police have been working in coordination with the other departments concerned to ensure smooth traffic movement on the routes. The DGP also inspected the residential barracks of personnel who are deployed there. He also checked whether they are getting basic facilities like electricity, clean drinking water and clean toilets. After checking security and crowd management preparations inside and outside the temple, the DGP issued necessary orders to the Chamoli superintendent of police Sarvesh Panwar and other senior police officials. He also asked them to ensure that the personnel deployed on Char Dham duties carry out their duty strictly while ensuring they do not misbehave with pilgrims and provide all the assistance possible. He said, “I also appeal to pilgrims to start the Char Dham pilgrimage only after registration as per the rules. We cannot allow movement beyond the prescribed capacity of Dhams. The police are bound to halt vehicles at various checking spots for traffic management and security purposes for everyone visiting the temples and I appeal to the people to cooperate with the authorities.”
