DGP reviews police preparations for Kumbh Mela 2027

The director general of police Deepam Seth has instructed Haridwar senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobhal to start forming a core team for Kumbh Mela 2027 to be held in Haridwar. A list of potential team members will be prepared to ensure timely deployment in Haridwar. The DGP held a meeting on Tuesday to review police arrangements for Kumbh Mela 2027. Discussions focused on security, crowd management, and logistical planning for the event were held in the meeting. Seth directed officials to develop a comprehensive action plan and conduct regular reviews to ensure a smooth and secure experience for devotees.

He said that the Uttarakhand Police is fully committed to ensuring safety and convenience during the Kumbh Mela. He stated that modern technology and improved management will be used to enhance the event’s security and organisation. Dobhal presented an overview of past Kumbh Melas, highlighting police arrangements, infrastructure developments and other key aspects. The DGP instructed all departments concerned and branches to conduct on-site inspections and prepare detailed action plans in advance. He also directed the traffic officials to formulate a complete traffic management plan and asked the communications wing to develop a communication strategy and the fire services to ensure fire safety measures.

The DGP also directed officials to prepare a training programme for personnel who will be involved in the event. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), bomb disposal team and water police were also instructed to assess their preparedness and formulate detailed plans. The meeting also included discussions on railway coordination to facilitate smooth transportation for pilgrims. Security arrangements for the event will include an increase in CCTV cameras, the deployment of drones and the use of modern surveillance equipment.

The DGP instructed officials to request additional central security forces to strengthen security during the event. The officials informed the DGP that the control room for the Mela will be equipped with necessary resources and coordination with neighbouring states will be maintained for information exchange. Officials were directed to assess required infrastructure developments in advance. Entry and exit points at all bathing ghats will be clearly marked and an emergency evacuation plan will be put in place to handle any unforeseen situations. The DGP stated that to enhance security and disaster management capabilities, police personnel will undergo specialised swimming training.
