Taking a stern note of a policeman allegedly harassing pilgrims in the Badkot area of Uttarkashi, the director general of police Ashok Kumar has ordered the immediate suspension of the policeman. The DGP ordered the action taking cognisance of a video which went viral on the social media in which a policeman was shown allegedly harassing pilgrims. The video also shows the policeman purportedly confessing that he had drunk alcohol, while allegedly seeking bribes to allow travellers to move ahead. Kumar had directed the Uttarkashi superintendent of police to conduct an inquiry of the incident following which it was ascertained that the policeman in the video is Ankur Chowdhary who was posted in the Badkot police station. After ordering his immediate suspension, the DGP stressed that the Uttarakhand police are committed to ensuring a safe and convenient Char Dham Yatra. The police are working with the sentiment of “Atithi Devo Bhawa” during the Yatra and will not let the pilgrims face any type of inconvenience during the Char Dham Yatra. The police personnel who dent the image of the police will not be spared under any circumstances. Strict action will be taken against such police personnel, stressed the DGP.
