Uttarakhand police will take action against those spreading disinformation on the Char Dham Yatra and allegedly showing police in a negative light by sharing short and incomplete videos through social media platforms. Several people on social media platforms are allegedly sharing short snippets of videos showing incomplete information regarding the pilgrimage in a way that depicts a completely wrong angle of an incident.
The officials said that such videos which are usually shared to seek likes and views on social media spread rumours among the public and can potentially disturb law and order. The director general of police Ashok Kumar said that police are making all efforts to ensure pilgrims face no inconvenience during Char Dham Yatra. He said that the police are diligently working on providing all kinds of help to pilgrims while ensuring their safety in harsh weather but snippets of some videos are being shared on social media platforms that unnecessarily depict the police in a negative light just to get short-lived popularity.
He said, “There are several advantages of social media platforms which must be used to spread positive messages. But some people are misusing them to spread disinformation by sharing incomplete information via reels or snippets of videos featuring police during Char Dham Yatra. I appeal as well as warn people to not upload such videos that spread rumours and can potentially disturb law and order during Yatra.” He said that the police in-charge of the respective districts have been instructed to take action against such offenders under the relevant acts including arrest if needed.
