Dhami Cabinet approves proposal to bring ordinance to send encroachers to jails

In latest news from Dehradun, the cabinet meeting presided over by the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved the proposal of promulgating an ordinance that will ensure that those who will be found guilty of encroaching government land would face up to 10 years’ imprisonment. The offence will be considered cognizable and non-bailable. The State government officials said that this approval of the Cabinet for promulgating such an ordinance is in keeping with the vow of the chief minister to act against encroachment of the government land. Now, the structures standing on encroached land are being razed down, but with the ordinance being passed, the encroachers will face jail term up to 10 years. Besides, the encroachers will be made to pay money amounting to the market value of the encroached lands. It is learnt that a special court will be constituted to deal with the encroachment cases.
The State government sources said that the ordinance may be brought in the next Assembly session and once it is passed, it will become a law. As per the provisions of this law, the complainant will straight approach the district magistrate concerned.
