Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday and discussed various infrastructural and development projects with him on Monday. Dhami also thanked him for his guidance and cooperation for the development of Uttarakhand. The CM gifted him a shawl made from local hemp fibre, bedu (Himalayan fig) items and a replica containing the Dhol, Damau and Ransingha used in the Nanda Devi Raj Jat.

Dhami said that the metro neo project has been proposed in Dehradun as a green mass rapid transit system to reduce the traffic load being experienced on the roads in the provisional State capital. The DPR of the project has been submitted for approval to the Housing and Urban Development ministry. Dhami requested Modi to facilitate approval to the proposal for the project.

Thanking PM Modi for the all-weather Char Dham road project, Dhami also requested that 155 proposals worth Rs 2,550 crore received from public representatives under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund should be approved. The ministry has granted approval to works worth Rs 250 crore, said Dhami while seeking approval for the remaining works. He said that the major rise in tourist traffic in recent years has increased the traffic load on highways in the State considering which it is necessary to upgrade the highways. The Road Transport and Highways ministry had granted approval in principle in 2016 to upgrade six roads to national highways.

Dhami also spoke about other roads in the State, especially those leading to the border region important from a strategic point of view. He further said that considering the number of people visiting temples in the Manaskhand region, 16 temples have been marked for development in the first phase. Work is also underway to convert the single-lane road to double-lane for this purpose. Land acquisition, forest land transfer and other procedures are being undertaken by the government. About Rs 1,000 crore will be needed for construction works in the first phase. Dhami requested that this sum should be provided by any ministry- Road Transport and Highways, Tourism and Culture, to the State.
