Dhami’s tablet gift to woo first time voters

Rs 100 crore to be spent on the largesse; Announces Rs 10 K for police & revenue personnel
In a major pre-election largesse aimed to woo the first time voters, the chief minister Puskhar Singh Dhami declared in Uttarakhand assembly on Friday that tablets would be provided to all the students of the government colleges of the state. A total of one lakh students would be benefited by the scheme and it is expected to cost the exchequer a sum of Rs 100 crore. The CM also annulled the deduction of the Rs 1 crore in the MLA local area development fund made in the year 2020-21. The deduction was made in view of the pandemic of Covid-19. In an attempt to please the ex-servicemen voters Dhami gave an assurance in the assembly steps would be taken to waive off the house tax for the armed forces veterans residing in cantonment board areas. Dhami also announced that a onetime incentive of Rs 10,000 would be provided to constables, head constables, sub inspectors and inspectors for appreciable service rendered by them during the Covid-19 period. A similar incentive would be given to Patwaris, revenue inspectors, Nayab Tehsildars and village development officers.
He said that a committee headed by former chief secretary and chairman of the Uttarakhand revenue board, Subhash Kumar has been constituted to study land laws and suggest measures to prevent migration and development in the agriculture and associated sectors. Dhami asserted that separate toilets for girl students would be constructed in all government schools. He also announced an increase in the Shivanand Nautiyal scholarship.
