In latest Uttarakhand news, the State higher education and cooperation minister Dhan Sigh Rawat while participating in the programme  ‘Meri Maati, Mera Desh-Mitti ko Namam’ in Manzood village in Chamba block paid tributes to the freedom fighters who laid down lives for the freedom of the country.  He also gratefully remembered the historic role played by Veer Gabbar Singh in World War II and felicitated his descendants and some other ex-army personnel on the occasion. The minister said that as envisaged by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the party has embarked on the ‘Meri Maati, Mera Desh-Mitti ko Namam’ from August 9 to 15 and it would be organised in every village, panchayat and civic bodies. “We observed the programme “Har Ghar Tiranga’ as part of last year’s Independence Day celebration on the call of the PM and this year too, we will organise the same from August 13 to 15,” Rawat said. While addressing the gathering, he dwelt on the myriad welfare programmes rolled out by the Centre and the State government over the years.
