The Uttarakhand Congress has demanded that the State government should release a white paper on Rishiparna and Kosi River rejuvenation projects. The vice president of State Congress, Suryakant Dhasmana said that the State government is engaging in a sham in the name of rejuvenation of rivers.

Interacting with the media persons at the State headquarters of the Congress, Dhasmana said that the State government has prepared a rejuvenation plan for Song, east and west Nayar, Shipra and Gaudi rivers under Spring and River Rejuvenation Authority (SARRA). He alleged that in fact the plan is an eyewash to misuse the budget. Dhasmana said that in the year 2017, the then chief minister of State Trivendra Singh Rawat had announced rejuvenation plan for Rishiparna (Rispana) and Kosi rivers and despite spending crores of rupees the condition of these rivers has not change and in fact has deteriorated further. He said that SARRA should undertake a campaign to rejuvenate the rivers and water sources but it should find out the reasons due to which rivers are drying up and find solutions for them.

Dhasmana said that indiscriminate cutting of the trees for development projects, digging of tunnels for Rishikesh- Karnprayag rail project and forest fires are some of the reasons for the drying up of rivers in the State.
