Upon receiving complaints from locals about the dilapidated LIC building posing the risk of a major accident, the Congress State vice president Surya Kant Dhasmana stated that he would urge the district administration to take action in this regard. A substantial portion of the LIC building is in Connaught Place on Chakrata Road in Dehradun. The building, which comprises approximately two dozen unoccupied residences, exhibits severe deterioration with bits of balconies collapsing and posing a risk to passersby. Despite the danger, both the LIC and local authorities have not been able to resolve the issue by demolishing the unstable structure. Consequently, the concerned locals have sought Dhasmana’s intervention to rectify this situation promptly. He informed that he had inspected the LIC building on Saturday. Senior citizen Chandrapal Mehta from the locality informed him that pieces of the building fall onto the road daily. He expressed concern that the situation has escalated to the extent where the balconies of about two dozen flats have already collapsed and the upper floor is also at risk of imminent collapse. Dhasmana stated that other residents in the area informed him that despite having notified senior LIC officials, the district administration, police and municipal corporation repeatedly, each party is deflecting responsibility onto the others without taking any action.
Dhasmana further stated that he has discussed the matter with LIC’s property manager Amit Parashar who informed him that discussions and correspondence are ongoing with the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun and the district administration. LIC is prepared to demolish its deteriorating building pending cooperation from the municipal corporation and the administration, he added.
Additionally, Dhasmana informed that he also spoke to the MCD engineer who confirmed that the building has been deemed dilapidated at their level, thus the necessary action falls upon LIC. Regarding this, Dhasmana expressed his intention to engage with the district administration on Monday to address the situation.
