Digital arrest mastermind held in Agra

In latest news from Uttarakhand, a Special Task Force (STF) arrested the alleged kingpin of the digital arrest racket from Agra in Uttar Pradesh. The victim is learnt to have been called on WhatsApp and Skype app and threatened to be implicated in a money laundering case, resulting in the victim depositing money in different accounts. Sharing further details, police said that the victim had been kept hostage under digital arrest in a single room for 18 days. To deceive the victim, notices in the name of RBI and CBI had been sent on the Skype app itself.

The victim had been digitally arrested on the pretext of buying a SIM card on his Aadhar card and making illegal transactions using it and a fraud worth Rs 47 lakh had been committed.

The SSP, STF Navneet Singh said that they had made the arrest while acting on a complaint registered by a Nainital resident in December 2024, adding that the police team had collected technical/digital evidence and identified the mastermind identified as Aman Kushwaha, resident of Gokulpura in Agra district.
