Directions issued to boost filming in State

Special principal secretary Abhinav Kumar chaired a meeting to review works of the Information department here on Tuesday. Regarding the new film policy-2022, Kumar directed that film production should be made more practical and simple in the context of Uttarakhand. The purpose behind this is to maximise the number of films shot in Uttarakhand, facilitate generation of employment opportunities, ensure benefit to local artistes and encourage tourism in the State. He further said that distant destinations in Uttarakhand should be identified and the film producers and directors should be encouraged to shoot in such locations. It was stated in the meeting that on the lines of national film awards, an annual event should be held in the State in which actors, film producers and directors are awarded. Kumar further said that films made in the languages of Uttarakhand should be accorded equal importance as those made in English and Hindi. Further, special provision of scholarship should be made for Uttarakhand native students securing admission in
Film and Television Institute, Pune and Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata. It was said that the new film policy will facilitate maximisation of employment generation, increase hotel and taxi business, benefit local artistes, boost State’s revenue in the form of SGST and also encourage tourism.
Directions were also issued to develop the e-office structure in the Information department soon. As per the requirement of the department, proposal for reorganisation of the department should also be presented. Joint directors Ashish Kumar Tripathi, KS Chauhan, deputy directors Nitin Upadhyay and Manoj Srivastava were also among those present in the meeting.
