Disaster management secretary stresses on stepping up vigilance in Haridwar due to incessant rainfall

Acting on the directive of the secretary, State Disaster Management, Ranjit Kumar Sinha, the State Disaster Management Authority has asked the Haridwar district magistrate to take appropriate steps in view of the possibility of the rise in the water level of the rivers flowing across the district. At the same time, the officers concerned have been directed to immediately pass on the disaster-related information to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) on phone numbers 0135-2710335, 2664314, 2664315, 2664316, FAX numbers 0135-2710334, 2664317 and toll free numbers 1070, 9058441404 and 8218867005. At the same time, the executive engineer of Himalaya Ganga Division of the Central Water Commission has asked the district administration to take adequate precautions in view of the rising level of Banganga (Raysi).
Besides, stress has been laid on prompt exchange of the disaster-related information among all the officers concerned down to the level of village heads. All must be on their guard round the clock, ready with the required equipments and wireless sets. They can neither take leave nor keep their mobile phones switched off as long as the emergency situation persists. They must keep raincoats, umbrellas, torches, helmets and other essential equipments in their vehicles and must arrange food items and medicines in adequate quantities to help people in case they get marooned. Instructions have also been given to not allow tourists go to the high-altitude areas in the Himalayas and to take prompt initiatives to clear the clogged drains in the cities and the towns to avoid flooding of roads.
