Mayukh Mahar, son of Pritam Singh submit resignation from PCC
Even as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is on a 3,570 kilometre long Bharat Jodo Yatra which he will cover in 150 days on foot, the fissure lines in Uttarakhand Congress are widening. The senior leader of Uttarakhand Congress and MLA from Pithoragarh Mayukh Mahar resigned from the PCC on Tuesday in protest against the selection of the delegates. Mahar has sent his resignation by email to Congress president of Uttarakhand. Apart from Mahar, Abhishake Singh, the son of the powerful MLA from Chakrata Pritam Singh too has resigned from the PCC.
The latest ignition to flare the ongoing turf war between different factions of Uttarakhand Congress was given by the selection of the delegates for the new Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC). Though the list of the new PCC has not officially been released, the list is circulating on social media platforms. Further the delegates whose names are in the list have been officially informed by the party.
In a letter written to the PCC president Karan Mahara, Abhishake Singh said that since many senior leaders of the party have failed to make it to the list of the PCC delegates, his position in the PCC should be given to some senior leader. The resignation of young Abhishake is being viewed as the response of the group led by former PCC president Pritam Singh on the constitution and composition of the list of PCC delegates. It is learnt that Pritam Singh is annoyed over non-inclusion of some of his loyalists in the list. Reacting to the resignation of Mahar from the PCC, Pritam Singh said that Mahar is a very important leader and it is difficult to imagine Congress party without him in Pithoragarh district. He however added that selection of delegates for PCC is the prerogative of the PCC president, the incharge of Uttarakhand Congress and the election in charge of the party.
