District hospital administration to seek solution to problem caused by narrow gate

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The longstanding issue of a common entry and exit gate at Deen Dayal Upadhyay district hospital has become a major cause of vehicle congestion. Several visitors have voiced concern and urged the administration to create separate entry and exit points, stating that the current setup leads to delays, especially during medical emergencies. Vehicles moving in opposite directions through the same gate often cause congestion inside the hospital premises, which patients say can hamper timely treatment. Taking note of the complaints, the hospital administration has said that it will approach the director general of Health to resolve the issue.
This is not the first time the problem has been raised. The Pioneer has highlighted the problems being faced due to a single gate at the district hospital. However, no concrete action has been taken so far. Gayatri Bisht who regularly visits the hospital for treatment said that she faces congestion every time she visits. “This becomes a serious problem in emergencies. Vehicles from both sides get stuck and cause long jams passing through the lone gate. It is the responsibility of the authorities to resolve this quickly,” she said.

Another patient, who did not wish to be named said, “Traffic jams on roads are common, but inside a hospital it is worrying. Congestion happens very often here due to a single gate. We have even seen ambulances stuck. The authorities should treat this matter seriously.”

The hospital’s principal medical superintendent at Dr Yatendra Singh said that he has also observed that the single entry-exit point is causing regular congestion. Separate entry and exit points are very important for any hospital. “Here we have two gates, but only one is being used because the other is too narrow. Considering the congestion, we are working on smooth movement of vehicles. We will soon approach the Health DG to get this resolved at the earliest,” Dr Singh said.
