The Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital has made necessary preparations for the 38th National Games, scheduled to take place in Uttarakhand from January 28 to February 14. Stating this, the medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr VS Chauhan informed that the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Sanjay Jain has instructed the hospital to arrange and set aside special beds in anticipation of the event.
In accordance with the CMO’s directives, the hospital administration has been equipped to manage various cases and injuries. Chauhan further noted that the medical team has been organised into three shifts for the duration of the games. Each shift will include four doctors with expertise in areas such as medicine, orthopaedics and physiotherapy, among others. The first shift will run from 9 AM to 3 PM, the second from 3 PM to 9 PM, and the third shift will function past 9 PM. He further said that the shifts for the doctors will begin at the hospital on January 28 and will remain on standby until February 14.
Dr Chauhan said that four beds have been allocated for the athletes in the hospital’s emergency ward. In preparation for the national games, they have also reserved 10 recovery beds and 10 ICU beds for the players. A dedicated team of doctors has been established by the CMO, who will be available round the clock at the stadium to address and provide immediate first aid to any players who sustain injuries. He said that routine injury cases will not be referred to the district hospital, as they will be managed by the medical team at the stadium. Only serious injury cases will be directed to the hospital, he added.
Chauhan further said that the district hospital is fully equipped and has been meticulously prepared to handle any player-related cases in light of the national games. However, any case involving head injuries will be referred to the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital, he said.
