In a bid to diagnose and treat dengue cases in Dehradun, the Deen Dayal Upadhyay district hospital had been equipped with a new Enzyme-Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay (ELISA) machine. This development comes after the district magistrate Savin Bansal’s recent inspection of the hospital’s facilities.
The recently appointed DM had conducted a surprise visit to the district hospital as a member of tge general public. While checking the hospital, he assessed its operations and amenities and engaged with the staff regarding potential needs. Following the inspection, he instructed officials to consider improving the facilities at the hospital.
Informing about this, the medical superintendent at the hospital Dr VS informed that during a recent inspection at the hospital, the lab technician expressed concern about technical issues with the ELISA dengue testing machine, which was the sole machine available at that time. This problem could potentially impact the number of dengue tests that can be conducted. In response to this issue, the DM recently allocated a new ELISA machine to the district hospital, with the aim of preventing an increase in dengue cases in the future.
Chauhan further explained that the new ELISA machine at the hospital is fully operational and is capable of testing 96 samples of blood simultaneously. With the addition of this new machine, the district hospital now has two ELISA machines, which will allow pathologists to conduct a greater number of tests without any disruptions, he added.
Regarding the preparation for dengue, he added that the district hospital currently has only one confirmed case of dengue under treatment. The hospital is well-equipped to handle dengue cases, with a dedicated isolation ward consisting of 10 beds and mosquito traps in place.
