District hospital seeks clarification from Health DG on minister’s bedsheets direction

The administration of the Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital has once again sent a letter to the director general of Health seeking clarification on an order issued by Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat regarding the use of different-coloured bedsheets in patient wards.
Informing about this, the medical superintendent of the hospital Dr VS Chauhan said that the Health minister recently instructed all government hospitals in the State to implement a routine practice of changing bed linens in patient wards. Additionally, he recommended that the hospital management utilise bed linens of various colours each day. In line with the Health minister’s guidance, the hospital administration has begun to acquire bedsheets in different colours corresponding to each day of the week. During the procurement of bed linens, the hospital administration encountered confusion regarding the frequency of linen change—whether they should be changed daily or weekly, he added.
He further said that to avoid any violation of guidelines, the administration has paused the purchase of bed linens and sent a letter to the director general of Health for further clarification.
Unfortunately, after receiving the response letter from the director general of Health, the hospital administration is still unclear about the instructions regarding the specifics of the order. This includes details about the colours to be used and the frequency of changes. In light of this, they have sent another letter to the director general of Health to clarify the order in detail. Chauhan emphasised that the hospital administration will only resume the purchasing process for bed linens once all order details are clarified by the authorities. It will be recalled that the district hospital plans to acquire approximately 2,000 to 3,000 bed linens in various colours, with funding provided by the State government under the Ayushman scheme.
