To promote sportsmanship among the youngsters, the district-level Khel Mahakumbh commenced in Dehradun on Wednesday. The programme was inaugurated by the Sports minister Rekha Arya.
Speaking on the occasion, Arya said the government has made efforts to engage students in sports along with education. Unfortunately, sports have been overshadowed by school homework, modern lifestyles and excessive time spent on smartphones. However, the initiation of the Khel Mahakumbh programme seeks to re-establish the significance of sports in today’s era. The scope of sports for players is no longer limited to mere entertainment and fitness as it now presents lucrative opportunities for a prosperous future, she added.
Arya further stated that the Khel Mahakumbh was originally initiated at the Nyay Panchayat level and has now expanded to encompass block and district levels, attracting participants from various sports disciplines who showcase their talents. She further expressed her satisfaction over the fact that in the state, over four lakh players are actively participating in the games.
During the programme, the players exhibited performances in multiple sports, and the minister also presented certificates and medals to the players.
