BJP expels Hakam Singh from the party for 6 years for being accused in the case

The Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a district Panchayat member from Uttarkashi, Hakam Singh after questioning him on the basis of evidence regarding his role in the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC) examination paper leak. Meanwhile, on the directions of the Bharatiya Janata Party State president Mahendra Bhatt, Singh was expelled from the party on Sunday for a period of six years for being accused in the paper leak case.

According to officials, the STF was keeping tabs on Singh since his name and alleged role in the paper leak of graduate level exams conducted by UKSSSC in December 2021 was revealed by another accused during questioning. Singh was reportedly trying to escape to Himachal Pradesh when he was first taken into custody on Saturday evening. The STF brought him to Dehradun for questioning and later arrested him on Sunday. It is alleged that Singh had arranged for more than two dozen candidates appearing in the UKSSSC exam to learn the answers based on the leaked examination paper at Dhampur in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh in return for a hefty charge amounting in lakhs of rupees. He then also got these candidates dropped at their examination centre. The STF senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that based on the information provided by the accused Hakam Singh during detailed questioning, some more prominent persons may face action in the case. The role of persons from Uttar Pradesh also involved in the paper-leak is also being investigated by the STF.

It should be mentioned here that 18 persons have been arrested so far by the STF in the UKSSSC exam paper leak case. Recently, the director general of police Ashok Kumar had informed the media that investigations had revealed that at least 50 candidates had passed the said test on the basis of the leaked paper. A number of other candidates are also under suspicion of having used the leaked paper and are under investigation.
