Divyangjan have potential to change the society: governor

 The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh has said that there is a need to change the thinking, perspective and approach towards the Divyangjan (differently abled). He said that the Divyangjan have the ability to change society on the basis of their talent and skill.

The governor was addressing the inaugural session of the five-day national workshop on research methodology in special education and rehabilitation at National Institute for Empowerment of the Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD) here on Saturday.

 The workshop is being organised by the Uttarakhand Open University and Indian Rehabilitation Council.

 The governor said that the workshop would play a key role in the rehabilitation and empowerment of Divyangjan with the help of new research methodology. He said that the objective of the research should be to alleviate the Divyangjan. He said that it is our responsibility to ensure that the Divyangjan become self-reliant. The governor said that a platform should be provided to them so that their skill and talent gets recognised. 

The governor said that efforts should be made for rehabilitation and benefit of the Divyangjan and this will help in creating an inclusive society which will act as a model for the entire world.

 Speaking on the occasion the Higher Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the State government has brought many qualitative improvements in the field of higher education. He also presented an account of the innovations being undertaken in the field of higher education in the State.

 The vice chancellor of the Uttarakhand Open University OPS Negi informed about the workshop. The director of the NIEPVD Manish Verma, the faculty members and students were present on the occasion. 

The governor felicitated visually impaired Kavya Bohra for providing training to 50 students in Braille on the occasion.
