Diwakar Bhatt cremated with State honours in Haridwar

Statehood activist and former cabinet minister Diwakar Bhatt was cremated with full state honours on Wednesday. On behalf of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, district magistrate Mayur Dixit and senior superintendent of police Pramod Singh Dobhal paid tribute to Bhatt by laying a floral wreath on his mortal remains.

Bhatt had passed away at his residence in Haridwar on Tuesday afternoon at the age of 79. In keeping with State honours, he was given a guard of honour and a final salute. His son, Lalit Bhatt, lit the funeral pyre, completing the final rites. Expressing his deep condolences on the demise of Bhatt, the CM also declared a holiday for all government offices in Haridwar on Wednesday. 

A large crowd gathered for Bhatt’s final rites and funeral procession, including numerous public representatives, organisation officials and members of the public from various districts. Former CM Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and Harish Rawat, along with MLAs Madan Kaushik, Adesh Chauhan, Ravi Bahadur, Mohammad Shahzad and Munna Singh Chauhan, were among those present at the funeral.
