The Dehradun district magistrate Sonika directed the chief education officer to ensure female students get career counselling and skill development training in schools so that they can become involved in self-employment during their school holidays. This will help them to become financially independent and self reliant in the future. She stated this in a meeting held to discuss the strategy for the health protection of women during pregnancy and the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign. She directed the officials concerned to carry out special monitoring of women with high risk pregnancy block-wise. They should also work to motivate reluctant pregnant women to go for regular health check-ups through ASHA and Anganwadi workers. The workers should also ensure that these women choose hospitals for deliveries to minimise maternal and newborn deaths. Besides this, she also directed the chief development officer Jharna Kamthan to prepare an effective action plan to make young girls mentally strong, financially independent and self-reliant. The officials also informed the DM that the administration took action against five complaints of child marriages this year and stopped them on time. Sonika directed them to stay vigilant about such cases and take immediate action against the culprits. She also instructed the CEO to provide information about good touch and bad touch to the school children in schools to make them aware and educated about such things from a young age.
