The Dehradun district magistrate (DM) Sonika issued orders to industrial establishments to make arrangements for collection and disposal of plastic used by them in packaging of their respective products. She directed the manufacturers and traders to work in coordination with one another to ensure the compliance of High Court orders for proper collection and disposal of prohibited plastic products.
The DM held a meeting with representatives of several industries and officials concerned on Wednesday regarding the preparation for collection and disposal of plastic being used in the industrial establishments in the district. She held this meeting after the instruction of Garhwal commissioner Sushil Kumar to all DMs of the division to take action against the manufacturers, importers and company owners who fail to collect and dispose of the plastic used in the packaging of their products sold in the respective districts as per court’s order.
Sonika directed the officials of District Industries Centre (DIC) to raise awareness and conduct roster-wise training programmes for registration of industrial establishments for their easy monitoring by administration. She also instructed the officials to widely publicise the necessity to register industrial establishments in district administration to ensure maximum registration. She also directed the officials of Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board (UEPPCB) to register the eligible industrial establishments on the website. She said that stringent action will be taken against those establishments that fail to comply with HC’s order to collect and dispose of their plastic waste.
