The district magistrate Sonika on Monday directed the regional transport office of the Dehradun division to act against the illegal operation of electric rickshaws on national highways in the district, which is leading to frequent traffic jams. She issued this order after she received complaints regarding severe traffic jams on NH 72 in the district during the weekly public hearing on Monday. She asked the officials to ensure the operation of e-rickshaws in the district as per the guidelines as most of them ply on main roads and highways where their operation is strictly prohibited by the transport department. Besides traffic jams, such violations can also lead to fatal accidents and strict action should be ensured against such violations, as per DM. She received a total of 99 complaints in the public hearing most of which were land-related cases. She directed all sub divisional magistrates to take immediate cognisance of such complaints in their respective areas and commence investigation to ensure the public does not have to wander unnecessarily. She also directed them to file FIR on complaints regarding land forgery. Besides this, she also directed the excise department to act against complaints of over-rating of liquor.
