DM directs steps to implement NGT orders on Hemkund route

The Chamoli district magistrate Himanshu Khurana chaired a meeting regarding the National Green Tribunal’s directions to ensure scientific disposal of plastic waste on Hemkund pilgrimage route, adequate number of toilets, regulating the number of horses and mules along with ensuring cleanliness of the environment. He directed officials to ensure plastic waste collection and installation of a compactor machine to scientifically dispose of the collected waste
. Officials were also directed to ensure adequate number of toilets and sanitation on the pilgrimage route. He further said that registration of horses-mules, their insurance, health check and provision of warm water should be ensured while also regulating their numbers on the route. Arrangements should also be made to dispose of their dung, he said.
The chief development officer Lalit Narayan Mishra, district tourism officer SS Rana, chief veterinary officer Dr Pralayankar Nath and others were also present in the meeting.
