The Dehradun district magistrate and administrator of Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) Savin Bansal flagged off 35 teams, each equipped with vehicles, to carry out the repair of streetlights in various wards of Dehradun. During the flag off, Bansal stated that numerous complaints had been received from local residents regarding faulty streetlights in various wards. As a result, teams have been dispatched to address this long-standing issue. The initiative follows a decision made during a meeting held on September 25, where the DM transferred the responsibility of streetlight repairs from the EESL company to the MCD due to the company’s poor performance.
The DM informed that each team will operate in its designated ward, ensuring all non-functioning streetlights are repaired. The teams are required to submit daily reports to the corporation on the progress made. Reporting officers have been assigned to each team to ensure proper accountability. These officers will not only verify the team’s attendance but also check the status of the equipment used, submitting comprehensive reports for review, he added.
Moreover, the municipal control room will manage lighting-related complaints, organising data into structured reports for further action. Bansal said that any negligence in the execution of these tasks will lead to strict action against officials concerned. Besides this, 20 dengue control machines were also allocated to the Health department to carry out fogging across the vulnerable areas, aiming to curb the spread of dengue and malaria. Bansal said that his primary goal is to ensure that the local population faces minimal inconvenience and he is committed to improving the city’s overall
