The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal on Wednesday imposed a penalty of Rs seven lakh on the company concerned for the longstanding issue of the disposal of the garbage accumulated in the solid waste management and recycling plant in Sheeshambada.

Bansal said that after spending an hour at the site on Wednesday, he experienced the hardships faced by the local residents due to the plant’s mismanagement and the company’s ongoing negligence in waste disposal operations. During a meeting at the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) office, the DM summoned company officials to discuss the current state of waste disposal at Sheeshambada. Expressing clear dissatisfaction with the situation, he imposed a fine of Rs seven lakh on the company. He also issued a stern ultimatum, giving them one month to improve their waste management practices and meet established standards.

The DM stated that multiple notices were served to the plant in the last two years, yet the issues persist due to which he had to take strict action against the company. He also mentioned the need for adequate resources and equipment at the plant, stating that the company must deploy enough vehicles and machinery to handle waste disposal effectively. Bansal also made it clear that any further excuses from the company will not be tolerated anymore. He stated that failure to meet the specified standards within the given timeframe will result in additional penalties and potential blacklisting of the company. Bansal said that by taking this direct approach, the district administration aims to ensure that the safety and well-being of local residents are prioritised, setting a strong precedent for accountability in public services.
