The district magistrate and senior officials are not meant to just engage in routine work but should focus on tasks that require extra effort and dedication. This was stated by the Dehradun DM Savin Bansal while expressing his dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work by officials during a review meeting on blood bank progress and the National Health Mission (NHM) at the district hospital on Monday.
He said that establishing a blood bank is among the top priorities and directed officials to ensure it becomes operational within this financial year. He also instructed that all community health centres (CHCs) must have functional laboratories which should be confirmed during his inspections. He also ordered the chief medical officer (CMO) Sanjay Jain to start a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) within 10 days at the district hospital and appoint a paediatric specialist within a week.
Besides this, he directed the CMO to immediately fill vacant positions, including doctors, ward attendants and security guards. The DM also emphasised that setting up the blood bank and NICU at the district hospital should be treated as urgent matters, assuring that no financial constraints will hinder the process from the administration level. He also issued orders to establish and operate a laboratory in the remote area of Tyuni to improve healthcare access. He said that there is a need for continuous efforts to enhance health services in hospitals as it directly impacts public welfare. He warned that no negligence in this regard will be tolerated.
Addressing the challenges faced by ASHA workers, he urged swift resolution of their issues, recognising their critical role in connecting with the community. He also reviewed the progress of key projects under NHM, including the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission and adolescent health programmes.
