DM issued direction for smooth function of traffic at ISBT

To manage traffic more effectively in the ISBT hotspot area, district magistrate Savin Bansal has issued important directives to the officials concerned. This decision follows a tour of the city conducted on a two-wheeler by the DM and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh on Saturday aimed at improving basic facilities and addressing traffic management shortcomings.

During a meeting of the Road Safety Committee, the DM emphasised that the committee has been granted significant powers by the court for improvements. He stated that road enhancement projects should utilise these powers as outlined in the Disaster Management Act of 2005. Bansal remarked.

He noted that, despite the presence of two gates for vehicle movement in the ISBT area, buses were operating through only one gate. It has now been decided that vehicles heading to Rishikesh, Haridwar, Kotdwar and the Garhwal and Kumaon regions will use gate number two for entry and exit, while vehicles bound for Saharanpur and Delhi will enter through gate two and exit through gate one.

Additionally, he further highlighted that traffic was being negatively impacted by passenger boarding and deboarding outside the ISBT area. Therefore, this practice will now be restricted to designated zones. Vehicles that fail to comply with this regulation will be seized and taken to the Rangers ground and repeat offenders may face license suspension, he added.

Bansal further explained that at the junction point under the ISBT flyover, traffic coming from Niranjanpur Mandi towards Kargi Chowk and Turner Road was causing congestion. To alleviate this issue, vehicles from Niranjanpur Mandi will now be diverted towards Kargi Chowk via the flyover at Junction Island, aiming to reduce traffic pressure on the service road and junction.

Further, the lack of proper parking for commercial vehicles around the ISBT bus stand was creating obstacles. Considering this, he instructed officials concerned to arrange proper parking in available spaces under the flyover to ensure smooth traffic flow.
